One of the most long-standing and respected figures in the industry, Manny Norté has become known as the “name you can trust” in the game, and deservedly so.
Regularly called upon by huge names, such as Jay-Z, Beyonce and Rihanna, as their DJ of choice when in the UK, he’s played at every notable British event including album launches, the BRITS after-party and Naomi Campbell’s Fashion Relief Party. Racking up tours with US artists such as Nas and Nelly, Manny’s work has taken him to countries such as Malaysia, Hong Kong, Sweden, Geneva, Russia, Ghana, Kenya, Barcelona, Poland and Greece to name but a few.
Born and raised in West London, Manny was born into the game, coming from a West African family and growing up listening to High Life, Reggae, Calypso and Pop.
Starting out as a dancer, Manny used to dance in music videos, college fashion shows and was a regular in battles. It was as a member of a dance crew that Manny tuned his ear and developed his taste for music; buying records, practicing mixing and creating mixtapes. Watching and learning from established DJs, in the early 90s, he became involved in a London movement of DJs, artists and friends called “Rotation”. Running events across the capital, by 1994 they had developed a weekly club night in the heart of West London at “Subterrania”.
To date, having performed at practically every top club in the UK, including Fresh n Funky, Smoov at Ministry of Sound, Tipsy in Glasgow, Love Dough in Newcastle, Milk and Hip City in Belfast, his services to the UK club scene have won him two MOBO Awards - in 1998 (Best Club Night “Rotation”) and in 2004 (Best Club DJ) - not to mention, multiple nominations and accolades.
In August 2006, following his 4 year stint at BBC 1Xtra, Manny moved on to the Kiss networks and took on the popular mixshow on a Friday night, signaling the start of the weekend from midnight until 2am every week.
Kick-started by being invited to be the resident DJ for the F1 Grand Prix in Bahrain, 2010 looks to be no less than exciting with Manny recording, performing and producing a ground-breaking mix-tape compilation among other endeavors.
